An Indian man who attempted to smuggle 361 grams of gold into the country has been apprehended by the Maldives Customs Service.
The customs said in a statement on Sunday that the 43-year-old man attempted to smuggle the gold into the country by concealing it in capsules inside his body. He was a passenger that arrived in the Maldives from Abu Dhabi via Wizz Air on 17 March.
The authority found him to be suspicious; therefore, a body scan was conducted to examine him further. The scan showed objects hidden inside his body, the statement said.
When he was questioned about the objects, the customs said he had admitted that he was attempting to smuggle gold by concealing it inside his body.
