Parliament had scheduled the issue of seeking approval for three Ministers initially rejected by the 19th parliament on their agenda today and sent the case to the Government Oversight Committee. Voting on approval will be held after the review.
Parliament has sent the matter of pending parliamentary approval for three Cabinet Ministers to the Government Oversight Committee for review.
The three Ministers were previously refused approval by the 19th People's Majlis, which had an opposition majority.
At the time, the opposition, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) had issued a whip to disapprove four of the 22 nominees proposed for President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's first Cabinet. The parliament had then voted to reject three Ministers on January 29.
The three Ministers who were denied approval were Attorney General Ahmed Usham, Minister of Housing, Land and Urban Development Dr Ali Haidar Ahmed, and Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed.
Officiated by the Supreme Court Judge HusnuSuood, the President had reappointed these three nominees back to their ministerial posts, after which their names were resubmitted to the parliament for approval.
The issue was scheduled for today's agenda. Addressing this, Speaker of Parliament, Abdul Raheem Abdulla stated that the case will be sent to the Government Oversight Committee for reviewal.
Voting on approval for the Ministers will be taken after the committee concludes its review.
Although these three Ministers were denied parliament approval, they remain in their ministerial position to date following their reappointment.
