MP Thoriq submits amendment to clear JSC from politicians

Opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM)'s parliamentary representative of Alif Dhaalu Atoll's Mahibadhoo constituency Ahmed Thoriq (Tom) submitted an amendment to the constitution, which states that political figures cannot be appointed to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

Opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM)'s parliamentary representative of Alif Dhaalu Atoll's Mahibadhoo constituency Ahmed Thoriq (Tom) submitted an amendment to the constitution, which states that political figures cannot be appointed to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

According to the submission, the amendment was proposed due to the apparent political influence, during the past 12 years, in appointing members for JSC, as well as the commission's investigations and decisions.
