This is the first time Lithuania has appointed an Ambassador since the two countries established foreign relations in 1999.
Lithuania has appointed its first ambassador to the Maldives.
Lithuania's Ambassador to Maldives Diana Mickevičienė presented her credentials to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu at a ceremony held at the President's Office today. This is the first time Lithuania has appointed an Ambassador since the two countries established foreign relations in 1999.
President Muizzu congratulated and welcomed the Lithuanian Ambassador to the Maldives during the ceremony where they discussed areas for strengthening bilateral relations, according to the President’s Office.
The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in trade, economy, and information technology. Lithuania appointed a non-resident Ambassador to the Maldives, who will be based in New Delhi, India.
In addition to the Lithuanian Ambassador, the new ambassadors of Turkey, Jordan, Zambia, and Romania also presented their credentials to President Muizzu today. These ambassadors will also serve as non-resident envoys to the Maldives.
