Deputy Speaker of the parliament and MP of Dhiggaru constituency Ahmed Nazim made a heated remark at Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) today, claiming that the Commission is incapable of doing anything despite the emergence of major corruption cases.

The comments were made during the State Owned Enterprise (SOE) committee meeting of the parliament today, where members of ACC were in attendance. Speaking in his turn, Nazim said that the law prevents police from investigating corruption cases, but that ACC delaying cases results in expiration of the prosecution deadline and the case being dismissed.

He also said that the outcome never changes despite new ACC members being appointed every time.

"You say the same things every term. [But] nothing happens. Then we have to change [you] members again. Another five people will come and the same thing will repeat," Nazim said.

Nazim also questioned why the Commission failed to request the removal of FENAKA's former Managing Director Ahmed Saeed despite multiple corruption related complaints being directed to ACC about the company.

"I am questioning you after cases kept coming and coming to your hands but we [still] lost MVR four billion when the administration ended. You are saying [you] had the authority. Why were you unable to remove him [Saeed, FENAKA] from his position?" Nazim demanded with dissatisfaction.

In response, ACC said that the matter was brought to former president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's attention as well as other agencies including the Privatisation and Corporatization Board.
