Civil Service employees should prioritise smiling and kindness: Vice President

The two most important aspects of public service are serving with smiles and kidness, said Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef today, urging Civil Service employees to remain in service with sincerity.

Speaking at the commencement ceremony of the fourth Civil Service conference held today at Dharubaaruge, the Vice President requested civil service employees to treat every local and foreigner who comes to seek services with kindness.

In his speech, he also stressed the importance of providing services that are up to date with the modern times and rapidly advancing technology, highlighting the example of solving long waiting hours in queues with such technology.

"Services should be available from home without having to go to the office. [I] believe it is important to collect feedback about how every citizen rates the service they received," he said.

He went on to say that serving the public is a huge responsibility and one that must be carried out with patience, wisdom and respect, stressing that every citizen would expect to receive easy, hassle free services from offices from every government institution.

"Civil Service employees will be the ones to welcome the citizens who go seeking services from government agencies. It will be these Civil Service employees who will be there to listen to, answer questions from, facilitate, expedite and guide the people. Therefore, Civil Service plays an immense role in running the government. The Maldivian government is in need of the assistance and sincere cooperation of the Civil Service," the Vice President added.

"President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's most important motto for national service is to expedite the services provided to the public. To modernise [it]. To work day and night to take the government to where the public expects it to be. And I hope that the Maldivian Civil Service will assist in making this initiative by the President a success."

He went on to further stress the importance of Civil Services' cooperation to move forward with the government how the public wants by always listening to the public and being as transparent as possible with the public.

He added that the contribution of all government employees is incredibly significant, and that the government would work round the clock to facilitate the needs of the Civil Service Commission and Civil Service employees.

There are currently over 26,000 civil service employees working in the Maldivian government.
