Five Maldivian men arrested in Hiyaa Flats when drugs and large amounts of money were found after an apartment there was searched under court order.
The place was searched under suspicion that it was used to sell drugs.
Criminal Court had ordered all five men, aged between 19 and 26, to be detained for 15 days on April 28. They are accused of possession, use, and dealing drugs.
According to the police, six rubber packets of suspected drugs were found in the drawer of the sitting room, where the television was kept. When the flat was further searched, large amounts of money were found “in easily visible locations” as well.
Things used to pack drugs and MVR 50,300 was found in the apartment.
One of the arrested men claimed he received the money from his employer. He said that even though drugs were found in the flat, he did not use them.
Another arrested individual included a man who previously used drugs and completed rehabilitation treatment while another had agreed in court that he use drugs and had gone to that apartment with the intention to use as well. The latter had requested he be sent to rehab.
