CEO of Dharumavantha Hospital Ibrahim Haleem said only 40 percent of the hospital which has been developed with such a high cost has been utilized so far and they are now working to make sure all of it is being utilized.

The 25 story hospital developed by Singapore’s Shenhua company, started to be used in March 2019. However, five years since the USD 140 million hospital building has been in use, the public has not been able to reap the true benefits of the hospital.

In an interview given to Mihaaru news, CEO Haleem said Dharumavantha Hospital is a state-of-the-art hospital with the latest technologies. However, the hospital has not been used to its full capacity in recent years, he said.

“Some services, Dharumavantha Hospital is providing. I will say the full services of the building have not been fully utilized. They are only using, I say, about 40 percent of the whole building,” he said.

He said the hospital developed during former President Abdulla Yameen’s administration is now being prepared to be fully used. He added that some machines have fallen into disrepair due to lack of use and therefore they are working to replace them, while obtaining machines they need for other floors as well.

“It is an important priority for President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to ensure Dharumavantha Hospital is a fully functional hospital in addition to IGMH, as soon as possible.”

Haleem said they have fixed some issues in an operating theatre recently and have started to use it again. Due to failure to maintain the oxygen banks well, they also have started work on fixing them as well.

“Due to lack of regular maintenance, ACs were faulty. We are solving these issues. Additionally, we have to carry out general maintenance of the building as well. Lifts access controller. Problems that are there now as well. Most of the problems are due to failure to carry out regular maintenance,” the CEO said.

He also said additional staff will be required to work at the 25 story hospital. They are now working to recruit nurses, doctors, and other staff required for the hospital.
