Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Aslam has said that there is no gain to be found in one branch of the State displaying a show of power to the other.

The Speaker's comments come at a time when the Government has reappointed three ministers who did not receive parliamentary approval back to their positions.

After President Dr Mohamed Muizzu delivered his first Presidential Address in Parliament today, Speaker Aslam said that as the Constitution has decreed separation of powers, it is imperative that each branch of the State acts to hold the others accountable for their actions.

He noted the importance of every branch of State offering absolute respect to decisions made by another branch within the boundaries of the rights granted to them by the Constitution and Laws.

He said that failure to act in this manner could lead to the collapse of the state mechanism, and would not be in the best interests of the State.

"There is no benefit or gain to be gotten in a show of power of one branch of the Maldives' State to another. I appeal to all State officials, political parties and parliament members to take this into consideration," the Speaker said.

Earlier, the Parliament voted against granting approval to Attorney General Ahmed Usham, Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, and Minister of Housing, Land and Urban Development Dr Ali Hiadar Ahmed.

All three were later reappointed to their positions by the President, and attended today's parliament sitting.
