President Dr Muizzu has assured that this administration will commence and complete the Addu Bridge project within this term in office.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu stated last night that the Hithadhoo-Hulhumeedhoo Bridge planned to be built in Addu City is 'not just empty talk' and that the government will complete the project.
Speaking at the Male' Mayoral Oath Taking ceremony last night, the President assured the public that they will bear witness to the completion of the bridge within his term in office.
He went on to reveal that feasibility studies of the project are currently ongoing, adding that details will be finalized to allow handover of the project to a contractor in the near future.
"Bridge construction will be conducted in different regions of the Maldives. Our talk of building a bridge in Addu City is not just empty talk. We will achieve it physically and show you," the President affirmed.
"God willing, we will draw up the blueprint, engineering and designing plans and complete work on the bridge during this term," he said.
This year's budget has an MVR 30 million allocation for conducting surveys on this bridge project.
Last Thursday, the President's Office announced that a well known Egyptian company has expressed interest in undertaking this project, offering to conduct the related surveys free of charge.
The Addu Bridge project was also raised with prospective investors during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's recent state visit to China. Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib has revealed that a Chinese company has also expressed interest in the project.
The Hithadhoo-Hulhumeedhoo project was previously pledged by former President Abdulla Yameen in the run up to the 2018 presidential election.
Last August, President Dr Muizzu announced in Addu that he work to realize the pledge made by the former President.
