ACC closes 16 graft probes regarding parliamentary elections

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), on Tuesday, revealed that they have concluded investigations into 16 bribery complaints submitted regarding the 2019 parliamentary elections.

Till date, ACC has launched investigations into a total of 22 corruption cases concerning the parliamentary elections that was held on April 6. They include 10 investigations initiated by the commission, and 12 probes carried out in response to complaints filed by the public.

The commission is currently probing into the remaining six cases.

Furthermore, the corruption watchdog stated that they were working closely with the Prosecutor General's (PG) Office to complete the prosecution process for a total of four cases which reached conclusion with enough evidence to press charges.

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) of the ruling coalition secured 65 seats in this year's parliamentary elections with a landslide victory. Jumhooree Party (JP) and Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) secured five seats each while Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) won two constituencies. Seven independent candidates were also elected to parliament.
