Ministry of Education has revealed the first group of expatriate teachers required for the academic year has arrived in the Maldives.
According to the Education Ministry, expatriate teachers required for the new academic year have been recruited and the first group of teachers arrived in the Maldives on Thursday, July 7. The teachers were welcomed by employees of the Human Resource Management Division of the Ministry at Velana International Airport.
The ministry has not yet announced the exact number of expatriate teachers to be brought in this year.
The Ministry has stated that efforts are underway to resolve the issue of bringing expatriate teachers to Maldivian schools. The ministry's biggest concern is the lack of Maldivian teachers to teach in other islands.
Maldivian teachers who travel to non-native islands will also be given an allowance of MVR 3,000. However, there is still a lack of local teachers willing to teach in island schools even with this opportunity.
