Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed on Wednesday, declared that gym facilities, as well a restaurant and shop inside the parliament premises.
According to the Speaker, the facilities will be built in the new parliament building, with the restaurant to be located on top of the terrace.
Speaker Nasheed further stated that efforts are underway to establish a system for parliamentarians to meet and discuss matters with their constituents at the restaurant, as well as allocate cubicles to each member of the parliament.
Parliament regulations will allow the staff of MPs to utilize the cubicle space.
Additionally, a media room will be constructed to provide journalists and reporters with amenities such as internet access.
The initiative will be carried out by the parliament's 'social club' composed of parliamentarians and staff.
Former lawmakers and retired staff will also be able to take part in club efforts.
