The government will not interfere with the judiciary, and if anyone attempts to do so, they will be dismissed from their position, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu stated.

In response to a question from a reporter following his meeting with the Male' City Council, the President reiterated that there would be no interference in the judiciary, not only from the President's Office but also from within the government, and this stance remains unchanged.

"There will be no influence on the judiciary. If anyone in a position of authority attempts such influence, I will remove them from office. I will not tolerate any interference with the judiciary, whether from myself or from anyone I have appointed," he asserted.

The President's comments came a day after former President Abdulla Yameen accused the government of meddling in his trial at the High Court. Yameen alleged that a group of individuals in government positions had tried to delay his trial.

Yameen claimed to know who these individuals were and threatened to release audio evidence. However, he did not reveal their identities.

Yameen was unable to contest the last presidential election as his appeal against the Criminal Court's 11-year jail sentence for bribery and money laundering was pending in the High Court. He also alleged that the PPM/PNC leadership had attempted to delay the trial by transferring a judge from the bench hearing his case and delaying the judge's return to the Maldives to stall the proceedings.
