Mohamed Latheef, the President of VAM, has been elected as the Vice President of the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC). He was chosen as a Vice President from the Central Zone Association (CAVA), one of the four zones of Asia that elects vice presidents for the AVC. Latheef currently also serves as the President of CAVA.

Additionally, Latheef has been appointed as a substitute member of the AVC Administrative Board.

Upon his election, Latheef emphasized that this achievement is not a personal success.

“This is a success for the Maldives and for the volleyball community of the Maldives,” Latheef remarked.

At the AVC Congress held in Bangkok, Thailand, Ramon Suzara, President of the Philippines Volleyball Federation, was elected as the President of the confederation. He secured the position with 48 votes, including proxy votes, while his opponent, Ali Ghanim Al-Kuwari, President of Qatar Volleyball, received 15 votes.

In his inaugural address, President Suzara called for unity to transform the vision of the AVC. The Senior Vice President of AVC is Craig Carracher of Australia, and Latheef has assumed the role of Executive Vice President.

“We need to unite, we need to work together for the future of Asian volleyball. Let’s work together and transform the vision of AVC,” Suzara stated.

Suzara’s term as president will conclude in 2028.
