Former President of Sri Lanka and current opposition leader, Mahinda Rajapaksa, paid a courtesy call on Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Tuesday.
According to the President's Office, the two leaders discussed the longstanding friendly relations between the two neighbouring countries, during the meeting held at the Opal 5.
In a tweet after the sit down, Rajapaksa stated that it was a pleasure to meet his longtime friend.

"Discussed the future of Maldivian and Sri Lankan ties and how to further strengthen the relationship, particularly given that Sri Lanka hosts the 3rd largest Maldivian population outside of the country", he said.
The meeting took place during President Solih's state visit to Sri Lanka, on the invitation of incumbent Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena.
The president was the Guest of Honour at the 71st Independence Day celebrations of Sri Lanka. The two presidents also held official talks regarding bilateral ties and greater cooperation in areas of shared interest between the two nations.
President Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed concluded the state visit late Tuesday.
