President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is to be the Chief Guest at the celebrations of Sri Lanka's 71st Independence Day on February 4, revealed the President’s Office on Tuesday.

While the Office did not reveal further details regarding the event, local media reports that President Solih will depart for Sri Lanka on February 3, accepting the invitation of Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena.

This will mark President Solih’s first official visit to Sri Lanka after coming into office on November 17, 2018. However, the president had recently visited Sri Lanka on a personal trip.

Since his inauguration, President Solih has made official visits to India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
