The Prime Ministers media secretary has been quick to say Mahinda Rajapaksa has not resigned from his post. An emergency cabinet meeting is taking place now at the Temple Trees, which is the official residence of the Prime Minister and not the Presidential Secretariat.
Several political meetings are ongoing at the moment. It will be decided at this meeting whether the rest of the cabinet will step down or remain in office. It is speculated that a new cabinet will be formed soon.
