Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid met with three foreign ministers and ambassadors of five countries over the past week.
Minister Shahid virtually met with Guyana's Foreign Minister Hugh Todd, Lao Foreign Minister Saleumxay Kommasith and Belize Foreign Minister Eamon Courtenay.
Throughout the course of these meetings, the top diplomats discussed efforts to boost bilateral relations and increase cooperation on matters of mutual interest in the international arena.
In addition to the meetings with foreign ministers, Minister Shahid met with the ambassadors of Thailand, Russia, the United States, China and India.
The minister had a farewell meeting with Thailand Ambassador to Maldives, congratulating her on the completion of her term.
During discussions with United States Ambassador to Maldives Alaina Teplitz, the foreign minister expressed hope that diplomatic relations between the two countries would continue to strengthen in 2021.
In addition to delibrations on boosting bilateral ties, Minister Shahid's meeting with Russian Ambassador to Maldives Yuri Mateyri also concerned efforts to increase the amount of Maldivian fish products sold in the Russian market.
Foreign Minister Shahid's discussions with Chinese Ambassador Zhang Lizhong and Indian Ambassador Sunjay Sudhir both included discussions on further strenthening diplomatic relations.
