Fathimath Dheema Ali and Rafa Nazim faced off in the women's singles event at the Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) table tennis, with Dheema claiming the gold medal.
The two players had previously competed in the table tennis women's singles final during the 2019 Games in Mauritius, with Dheema emerging as the winner on that occasion as well.
In the IOIG held in Madagascar, Dheema triumphed in a five-set table tennis final, securing a 4-2 victory. Rafa initially claimed the first set with a score of 11-2, while the second set was a close competition and ultimately won by Dheema with a score of 14-12.
Dheema continued her momentum, winning the subsequesnt two sets with scores of 11-9 and 11-7. However, Rafa fought back and secured the fifth set, leading to another round. Ultimately, Dheema emerged victorious in the sixth set with a score of 11-8, securing the coveted gold medal.
