Airport Council International (ACI)'s 'Airport Excellence (APEX) in Security' assessment program is being held at Velana International Airport.
The purpose of the program is to assess security operations at the international airport, and to formulate an action plan. The assessment will continue for a period of five days.
Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) said that the APEX in Security assessment will facilitate further strengthening of security operations at the airport.
The assessment is being carried out with the assistance of the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC).
Speaking at the inauguration of the program, MACL CEO and Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed said that as the number of airlines and passengers seeking VIA services increase, the airport always prioritizes the safety and security of service seekers. As such, a special action plan will be formed based on this assessment, he said.
MACL currently undertakes various efforts in collaboration with ACI, International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), International Air Transport Association (IATA) and other international organizations to strengthen security at the airport.
