MP Ibrahim criticized the government, stating that aside from condemning the violence against Palestinians, no concrete action has been taken over the past year to implement this stance.
North Galolhu MP Mohamed Ibrahim (Kudu) has submitted a resolution in Parliament urging the government to expedite voting on the bill that would ban Israeli passport holders from entering the Maldives.
MP Ibrahim criticized the government, stating that aside from condemning the violence against Palestinians, no concrete action has been taken over the past year to implement this stance.
The call to ban Israeli passports in the Maldives was first proposed by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) MP Meekail Ahmed Naseem who submitted an amendment to the Immigration Act, which prompted a cabinet decision supporting the ban.
However, MP Ibrahim's resolution noted that the bill has been stalled in the Parliament's 241 Committee for the last four months, despite the ruling party's majority in the parliament expediting other matters by holding extraordinary sittings.
The 241 Committee resumed discussions on the bill today, setting a deadline for February next year as the likely date for finalization of the bill, as Parliament is set to recess in December.
