Dhiraagu celebrates World Telecommunication and Information Society Day

Dhiraagu held multiple sessions and special launches to celebrate World Telecommunication and Information Society Day this year.

Local telecommunication company Dhivehi Raajjeyge Gulhun Public Limited (Dhiraagu) marked World Telecommunication and Information Society Day will colourful celebrations across the country today.

A special ceremony was held at Maldives National University (MNU) to commence the celebrations, which was attended by Chief Executive of Communication Authority of Maldives (CAM) Ilyas Ahmed as well as CEO and MD of Dhiraagu Ismail Rasheed.

Speaking at the ceremony, CEO and MD of Dhiraagu said that the company is "committed to harnessing the power of digital innovation to create a positive impact on society and the environment. We are empowering communities with enhanced digital infrastructure, platforms and tools for a sustainable digital economy,"

Chief Executive of CAM Ilyas Ahmed also gave brief speech, encouraging and inviting young people to not be afraid to put forward their ideas in achieving a sustainable future together.

The ceremony's main segment was a panel discussion which aimed to share knowledge with young people on how they can adopt Digital Innovation for sustainable development. The panel was led by Dhiraagu's Data Scientist Aishath Zara Nizar and was joined by Ismail Faiz, Head of Cybersecurity at Dhiraagu, Aishath Nayasheen Ahmed, Head of Solution Mapping at UNDPMaldives and Hawwa Reena, Legal Counsel & Sustainability Manager at Dhiraagu.

As part of the festivities a special talk show 'Digital Raajje' [Digital Maldives] by the company's Assistant Public Relations Manager Jaishan Hameed was aired on local TV channels Television Maldives and SSTV today. The show reflected on the telecommunications journey of the country, featuring CEO and MD of Dhiraagu Ismail Rasheed, Deputy Director of CAM Zulaikha Ibrahim as well as Co-Founder of Women in Tech Maldives Aiesha Adnan. Chief Technology and Information Officer at Dhiraagu Mohamed Musad also made an appearance.

The guests reflected on how the telecommunication industry began in Maldives and how the industry has since evolved. Discussions also centred around the advancement of technology in recent years and how it can be successfully used to enrich lives of people while ensuring a safe digital space for future generations.

Dhiraagu also invited students from different key stages of schools to visit the company's Head Office and regional operations centres where practical and informative sessions were held with team members who also answers the students' questions.

All new 100 GB data packs were also launched by Dhiraagu on the occasion as a way of thanking their customers for over 30 decades of support and trust in the company. All Dhiraagu prepaid customers can activate these data packs with their preferred validity via the Dhiraagu App, said the company.
