Electricity has been restored in the island of Muli in Meemu Atoll in the early hours of this morning after they have faced a two day long power outage.
The entire island faced an electricity black out on Wednesday morning due to technical issues in the two generators used on the island.
In an effort to minimize the inconveniences faced, efforts were made to provide 30 minutes of electricity at a time after sectioning the island into areas. However, the issue was finally resolved only at about 03:00 hrs early this morning.
Muli Council Member Ahmed Sakif said tat the issue had ultimately been resolved through making use of a 600 kilowatt generator that had earlier been brought to the island.
"We are considering this as a permanent solution. However, the other engines are in a bad condition at this time," he said.
Sakif said that Fenaka had informed them that efforts would be made to improve the powerhouse.
The Council said that the island's population of over 1500 had faced serious inconveniences due to the power outage, with many having seen sleepless nights. He said that as a result, schools and offices had also remained closed for the past two days.
