The President declared his intention to tour across all islands in the country at least once more during his five year tenure.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has declared his objective to visit all islands in the country no less than twice during the five years of his administration.
At the ceremony held at Meemu Mulah school to address the island's residential community, President Muizzu stated that this administration aims to actively enforce the decentralization system rather than letting it remain as no more than letters in a book.
He stated that the purpose of convening with councils and considering this in such a high priority is to enable implementations of the perspectives of the people in relation to their island to a standard reaching their expectations.
The President has presently met with over a hundred councils since his assumption of office last November.
“I feel an immense sense of relief. I am learning directly the needs of the people,” the President said.
He stated that his resolution is to conclude visits to all islands in the country within the span of this year, stating that this will allow direct communication with the people and facilitate ease of project initiations.
“To commence these projects and observe the progress of these developments following that, a second round of this has been planned for 2026. For me to visit all islands,” the President explained.
“Therefore, I will visit all inhabited islands of Maldives and meet the people at least twice within this five-year term. This is what I have decided on. Visits to islands for various purposes as requested by the people will also certainly be possible.”
The President stated that visiting islands and convening with the residential community will also ascertain that the projects are proceeded to achieve the most beneficial requirements of the people. President Muizzu further revealed his desire for distinguishing his conduct within the responsibilities conferred to him by the people at every moment of each day and assured that he will persevere with this intention.
“The whole team will work as such. I ask for the people’s cooperation on this matter. To extend all support extendable.”
