President Dr Muizzu has announced that MNDF and Police will see a pay rise in the coming month of March.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said that a decision has been reached to raise the pay of Maldives Police Services (MPS) officers and Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) personnel from March.
In response to a question posed at last night's Ahaa Forum, the President revealed that this decision has been made, but he did not provide any details about the arrangement.
President Muizzu announced doubling the salaries of police and MNDF officers at a rally held at Artificial Beach on September 15 during the presidential election campaign. Providing details, he added that he would increase the salary by 35 percent in 2024, 25 percent in 2025, and 30 percent in 2028, effectively doubling the salaries.
However, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s Central Fuvahmulah constituency MP Hussain Mohamed Didi submitted an issue to last Wednesday alleging that the current administration is prolonging delays in the implementation of the promised doubling of pay and urging the fulfilment of this pledge be expedited.
Head of Police Commissioner's Bureau Chief Superintendent of Police Ahmed Shifan, has earlier said that the Finance Ministry has informed them that the salaries of police officers will increase starting from March 1.
The previous government had decided to revise the salary structure of a Constable rank policeman, increasing it from MVR 11,000 to MVR 15,400, and the salary of an employee with a Private rank in the military would see an increment from MVR 11,500 to MVR 16,300.
