Volleyball Association of Maldives (VAM) appointed Mohamed Shafy as their General Secretary.

Working closely with VAM's President Mohamed Latheef, Shafy had left the association after the controversial inter-resort volleyball competition held last year, when officials of the association were barred entry into the Zone 5 final, contested by Soneva Fushi and Anantara Kihavah, hosted at the former.

The post of VAM's General Secretary was previously held by Maldives' Women's National team coach, Ahmed Adeel, until he resigned on Saturday. Adeel has announced that he will be seen in the field of volleyball development in the future.

Shafy is the fourth General Sectary to be appointed during Mohamed Latheef's reign.

Shafy was last seen as the association's Director of Marketing and Promotion. At the time, he chaired the inter-resort volleyball tournament and was heavily involved in the Association Volleyball Confederation (AVC)'s Women's qualifiers held in Maldives last year.

Previously, Shafy had contested twice in the association's general elections for the post of association President. Furthermore, he was the General Secretary of the association from 2002 till 2004.

VAM has recently begun facing stark criticism for poor management of the association, during which Mohamed Ranesh had resigned from his post as Vice-President of the association.
