Maldives announces national squad for 2018 SAFF Championships

Football Association of Maldives (FAM) has disclosed the names of the 30 players who made the cut to represent Maldives at the SAFF Championship 2018.

The 2018 SAFF Championship, is the 12th edition of the biennial international men's football championship of South Asia. Bangladesh is set to host the 2018 event from September 4th till September 15th.

The list of names disclosed by FAM of the national squad for the 2018 SAFF Championship include 8 players from Maziya Sports and Recreation Club, 6 players from New Radiant Sports Club, 6 players from Club Eagles, 5 players from TC Sports Club, 3 players from Club Green Street and a single player each from Victory Sports Club United Victory Club.

The names of the players qualified to represent Maldives in the SAFF Championship are:

Maziya Sports and Recreation – Hussain Shareef, Mohamed Mujuthaaz, Moosa Yameen, Ali Samooh, Mohamed Irfan, Asadhullah Abdulla, Hassan Naiz and Ahmed Imaz.

New Radiant Sports Club – Mohamed Faisal, Akram Abdul Ghanee, Mohamed Umair, Riham Abdul Ghanee, Hamza Mohamed and Ali Fasir.

Club Eagles – Mifdhadh Mohamed, Hussain Shifau Moosa, Ahmed Nooman, Mohamed Arif. Mohamed Naeem and Hussain Raaif Ahmed.

TC Sports Club – Mohamed Samir, Azzaam Abdulla, Ibrahim Hassan Waheed, Mohamed Azzaam and Ibrahim Mahudhee Hussain.

Club Green Street – Mohamed Saaif, Mohamed Samdhooh and Abdulla Yameen.

Victory Sports Club – Hussain Nihan.

United Victory – Hassan Tholal.

With two groups in the competition, the Maldives’ finds itself in Group B along with Sri Lanka and India, while group A consists Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Pakistan. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals.

The country will play against Sri Lanka on the 7th of September in the teams' first match and then against India on the 9th of September.

Maldives had earlier been crowned as the SAFF Champions for the first time in 2008.
