Local guesthouse Kite and Dive Village Fenfushi hosted a two-day water sports festival in Fenfushi, Alifu Dhaalu Atoll from January 17 to 18.

The 2020 Water sports Festival Fenfushi was held in collaboration with East Wind Water sports, Reethi Kite, Raalhugudi and Sling Shot. The event also garnered notable support from island based-organisations, councils, committees and the community.

The festival kicked off on Friday morning with a showcase by 15 well-known kite surfers, displaying their professional skills.

From 1400 hrs to1600 hrs, children and enthusiasts were given introductory lessons to kite surfing. This was followed by kiteboarding and then a parasailing show and lesson which concluded at 1800 hrs.

At 0800 hrs on Saturday, Reethi Kite began an island-wide clean up which was attended by several school students. The remainder of the day's schedule consisted of several water sports activities which continued until sunset.

Owner of Kite and Dive Village Mohamed Abdul Raheem, stated that "our aim is to instill interest in kiteboarding within the youth of Fenfushi and promote local tourism in Fenfushi".

The leading figure behind organizing the 2020 Water sports Festival Fenfushi, Mohamed is also one of the three Maldivians that attained the internationally recognised title of instructor, in the field of kite boarding.

The island of Fenfushi, an up-and-coming location for local tourism, is well known for its natural beauty, in particular, a generous sandy beach. Fenfushi is also home to a historic mosque, one of the six coral stone mosques of Maldives in the World Heritage List.
