Police win FAM futsal cup

The Police Club on Sunday won against Dhivehi Sifainge Club (DSC) by 1-5 goals and was declared champion of the male division in the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) Futsal Cup.

The scorers on behalf of the police were Ali Munaz and Ali Rishwan who both scored two goals as well as Nishad Ali who scored one. Rishwan was decided the best player of the final match played at the FAM mini turf pitch.

Overall best players of the male division are Nishad and Rishwan from the Police Club as well as Hassan Fawaz and Husham Ibrahim from DSC. Hassan Hameed and Ibrahim Assad from the police were awarded best coach and best keeper respectively.

The champions of the female division are BG sports group which won against DSC after a penalty shot which put the final score at 4-5. DSC captain Fadwa Zahir, who is also the captain of the national women's football team, was chosen as the best player of the match.

Overall best players of the female division are DSC's Fadwa and Mariyam Rifa and captain Fathmath Saaliyaa and Aminath Saalima from BG.

As per the regulations of the FAM futsal cup, those who played in the first division's Male' league and the Dhivehi Premier League during last year cannot participate. FAM stated that it would maintain its stance of discouraging footballers from playing futsal.

The FAM futsal cup is the first tournament with significant public support specialized for futsal held by FAM. In 2017, FAM hosted a President's Futsal Recreation Cup for players of both genders from government institutions and private companies. Despite the initiative being called the beginning of annual futsal tournaments held by FAM, no such competitions were held in 2018
