As per their tradition, Champa Brothers has decided to donate watermelons, onions and coconuts to Maldivians for Ramadan this year as well. Onions have been delivered to the concerned Ministry and the company stated that the rest will also be delivered shortly
The company which operates the most resorts in the country, Champa Brothers Maldives Pvt Ltd has determined to contribute a donation of 50,000 coconuts, 50 tons of watermelon and 10 tons of onions to the people of the country specifically for the month of Ramadan.
An official of the company stated today that 10 tons of onions will be delivered to the Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works today and further elaborated that watermelon and coconut will also be delivered to the ministry before either the beginning or the second day of Ramadan.
“That is so they can mediate the distribution,” he clarified.
Champa Brothers had distributed coconut and watermelon to Maldivians during last year's Ramadan as well, of which the distribution was assigned to Male' City Council at that time.
The company stated that the goods were delivered to the Local Government Ministry this year so as to ease distribution to local islands as well.
In response to a question inquiring the procedures for distribution, Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works, Adam Shareef Umar remarked that the goods will be distributed within the same procedure as last year.
“We haven’t received it yet; we will know the various procedures for distribution once we receive it. We are discussing to distribute it within the same procedures practiced by Male’ City Council previously,” said the Minister.
Last year, Male' City Council had dispersed the food supplies from their Public Service Department at a rate of one watermelon and five coconuts per person, once they were visited with an ID card indicating Maldivian nationality.
The calendar estimates this year’s month of Ramadan to fall on Monday next week.
