Sabudheli Magu, a road that has remained closed to the public for six years, has been reopened last night.
The road, located north of Hiriya School, was reopened after extensive work from the Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works, which began on January 6.
At the time, the ministry said that the road was being reopened to provide a solution to traffic congestion caused by the reconstruction work being done on Ameenee Magu. However, Ameenee Magu has also been completed and opened for public use now.
Sabudheli Magu was initially closed to the public during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's previous tenure as Housing Minister.
Although the plan at the time was to develop a luxury housing project, no work has been done on the project to date. The luxury housing project, Coral Boulevard, is planned to be located near Rasfannu Beach.
The project was handed over to Singapore's Chang Hua Construction company during former President Abdulla Yameen's administration, with an agreement to complete the work by the end of 2020. Foundation of the building was laid at the time. The agreement stipulated that 120 flats from the project's four towers would be granted to the government.
However, the project was later transferred to Hulhumale', and the initially allocated land remained abandoned and closed up.
