Director General of Transition Ahmed Latheef stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs began sending out invites for the inauguration of President-Elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to various foreign dignitaries on Thursday.

In a statement given to local media Mihaaru, Latheef stated that "As far as we know, the inauguration is set to take place on November 11."

While Latheef has asserted that the Foreign Ministry began sending out invitations at the beginning of the week, an official statement has not been made clarifying the ceremonial date, despite growing uncertainty concerning an exact date of the oathtaking.

The incumbent president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom's five-year term will be complete on November 17, the date he was sworn into office in 2013. With respect to this fact, several people including Attorney General Mohamed Anil have maintained that rescheduling the inauguration on November 11 would be in violation of the constitution.

Meanwhile, sentiments that the inauguration should be held on November 11, with respect to the long-standing tradition where the oathtaking takes place on Republic Day, continue to be expressed by multiple others on social media including within political factions.

Ahmed Shareef, Chief of the Elections Commission (EC) had earlier stated that there are no obstacles to holding the inauguration on November 11, should a decision be made to reschedule the oathtaking.
