The Elections Commission (EC) revealed on Wednesday that the candidate order for the upcoming Presidential Elections in September will be decided this coming weekend.
An announcement by the commission states that the candidacy order will be decided at 10:30 a.m. on August 18.
While seven application forms for candidacy were taken from EC, only three were submitted, out of which only two were declared eligible by the commission after the deadline expired.
The candidates to contest in this year's election are President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom representing the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives and Hinnavaru MP Ibrahim Mohamed Solih (Ibu), who is representing the joint opposition.
Independent Candidate, Hussain Naseer's form was rejected by the Election Commission. He has taken the issue to the High Court, though it is not clear whether the case has been accepted yet.
In this year's election, 263,000 citizens have been listed as eligible for voting.
