Tourist arrivals in the Maldives for the month of July had spiked by 5.7 percent, according to the tourism ministry’s statistics.
The total number of tourists to the Maldives last month had amounted to 110,432, bring the total for this year to 730,353 by the end of July.
According to the statistics, the highest number of tourists had hailed from China, the Maldives’ largest tourism market, with 35,456 visitors, which is a decrease of 12.2 percent from last year’s July. The second highest number of tourist arrivals were from the United Kingdom with 7,898, which is an annual increase of 10 percent. UK was followed by Germany with 6,008 visitors, which is a 2.5 percent increase from last year.
Statistics indicate that July recorded the third highest tourist arrivals for this year.
The statistics further show that tourist arrivals had increased in July from Europe with 37,859 visitors (11.3 percent from last year) and Saudi Arabi with 7,242 arrivals (51 percent increase). However, the number of tourists from the Asia Pacific including China had decreased at 60,323 which is a dip of 1.7 percent from the previous year.
