Majority of all ongoing urban development projects across the atolls will conclude before the presidential elections scheduled on September 9, according to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

While speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the new Fenaka Corporation powerhouse, office blocks, and ice plant in Faafu atoll Feeali, President Solih assured government’s expedited efforts to complete ongoing urban development projects in local islands to facilitate basic services.

"We have been inaugurating projects in each of the islands we have visited in the atoll, and this trend is expected to continue," President Solih said.

He added that they have completed 68 new offices and opened 48 new powerhouses.

President Solih said that an additional 28 powerhouses on 28 islands will be operational within the next two to three months, prior to the elections. Moreover, several projects undertaken by the Ministry of Education throughout the atolls are also nearing completion.

Additionally, President Solih assured that the 122 water and sewerage projects underway in various islands will be completed soon.

“Most of the islands will receive [basic] services from July and August,” he added.

Establishing basic facilities in all local islands is a key priority for the current administration, with several urban development projects initiated across the Maldives.
