Maldives’ tourist arrivals exceeded total visitors of 2021

Maldives’ tourist arrivals for 2022 has so far exceeded the total amount of tourists it welcomed in 2021, and are nearing the projected amount of tourist arrivals for this year.

Last year, Maldives welcomed 1.3 million tourists. As per statistics released to the public by the Tourism Ministry, this amount was exceeded on Wednesday, October 26.

The government’s goal for 2022 was to welcome 1.6 million tourists this year. Tourism ministry estimates that this goal would be achieved before the end of the year.

The amount of tourists that visits Maldives during the year end season is also on the rise. On average, approximately 5,000 tourists arrived in Maldives every day in October.

Most amount of tourists from a single country that visited Maldives was from India, with a total of 186,388 tourists, while 159,657 tourists came from Russia. The United Kingdom is third in the ranking with 144,566 tourists.

Tourism Minister Dr. Abdulla Mausoom had congratulated industry workers and ministry employees as well on Thursday, as this year’s tourist arrivals had already exceeded last year’s total visitors.
