President concludes trip to upper-northern atolls

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Wednesday, September 28, concluded his three-day official visit to the upper-northern atolls of Haa Alifu and Haa Dhaalu.

The Maldives head of state visited the islands of Naivaadhoo and Finey from Haa Dhaalu and Utheemu and Dhidhoo from Haa Alifu atoll.

President Solih was accompanied by First Lady Fazna Ahmed during the visit to Utheemu to take part in the National Day celebrations. Speaking at the official ceremony held to commemorate the National Day, president stressed on the importance of ensuring ease of livelihoods for all citizens without bias.

Residents of Utheemu hosted a traditional banquet in honor of the presidential couple.

During his visit, president Solih also visited the official launch of Zone 1 of Raajje Transport Link (RTL) ferry service. At the ceremony, president Solih made emphasis on restoration of the wealth and autonomy of the islands - which began with commencement of the RTL services.

President further spoke on efforts by the current administration to "bring immense development to the Bodu-thiladhunmathi region" through large-scale infrastructure development projects. One such initiative being the redevelopment of Hanimaadhoo International Airport, which is touted as the largest and most expensive urbanization efforts outside of Greater Male' region till date.

During his three-day official visit president had met with the heads and members of the respective island councils and Women's Development Committees (WDCs). At these visits many of the members raised concerns on their most pertinent issues related to their respective islands.
