Court orders that Mohamed Ahmed elected as the President of Gaafu Dhaalu Gaddhoo Council was not guilty of the sexual misconduct accusations pressed against him.
The state had accused him of showing images containing nudity to a minor via a social media application. He was elected as Council President while he was under police custody for the aforementioned charges.
Gaddhoo magistrate Court had passed the verdict on Sunday that the state failed to prove that the social media account in question was used by Ahmed Mohamed.
He has therefore been freed.
Even though he was detained when he won the Local Council Election held on April 10, he was released shortly by the Gaddhoo Court, leading him to take the oath in May. However the state had declared his oath void, and he had been detained since then, until the case against him was fully settled.
