On Wednesday, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) announced that 464 more people tested positive for COVID-19 in Maldives, while 76 recovered from the disease.
This is the highest number of positive cases recorded in Maldives within 24 hours.
Although the number of cases started to drop earlier in April, within the past week the figures have been rapidly increasing.
According to the agency, of the new cases, 107 were from the greater Male’ region, 146 cases from residential islands, 14 cases from operational resorts, three from liveaboards, one from an island under development and 93 from industrial islands.
Currently, the island nation records a total of 29,052 virus cases of which 4,404 are active cases, in addition to 24,575 recoveries and 73 deaths.
On March 12, 2020, WHO classified the spread of COVID-19 as a global pandemic. To date, the new strain of novel coronavirus has infected over 150 million people and claimed over 3.16 million lives around the world. However, out of those infected, more than 128 million people have recovered.
