Applications for the 200 government flats being constructed in Thinadhoo will open next Sunday.

On Thursday, Thinadhoo City Council announced that these 200 flats, currently under construction, will be allocated to both residents and those interested in relocating to the island. This initiative is part of a broader policy by the council and the government to tackle the housing shortage on the island.

However, the specific policy for distributing these flats has not yet been released.

The announcement also stated that individuals interested in applying can do so through the online portal starting next Sunday.

In October 2022, the contract to build 200 flats in Thinadhoo, the most populous island in Huvadhoo Atoll, was awarded to the joint venture between Sri Lanka's Sierra Construction and Star Construction and Engineers. The project is valued at MVR 253 million.

Each housing unit in this project will cover 700 square feet, featuring three bedrooms, a living room, a bathroom, a kitchen, a dining room, a laundry area, and a storeroom.
