Minister of Foreign Affairs, Moosa Zameer is scheduled to visit India on an official trip next week.

As reported by some news outlets in India, the Maldivian Foreign Minister, Zameer is making a trip to the Capital City of India, New Delhi for the first time since the change in administration. Zameer is scheduled to fly to New Delhi on the 9th of May.

This marks the first instance that a senior representative of the Government is paying a visit to India since President Dr Mohamed Muizzu took his oath of office on November 17 last year.

Previously, each President of the Republic had visited India as their first official presidential trip to a foreign country. However, President Muizzu had made his first presidential visit to China instead.

Following this, Maldives has been directed with heavy criticism from India which entails that the new government is maintaining a closer relationship with China.

The biggest vow of this administration during the presidential campaign was to remove the Indian military troops established in the country to operate the helicopters and aircrafts gifted to the Maldivian Air Force by India. Accordingly with this pledge, Indian civilians have now been arranged to operate these aircraft instead of the military troops who were earlier stationed here for the purpose.

While two batches of the Indian military troops present in Maldives have now been sent back to their country under this agreement, the Maldivian government had previously asserted that the last batch is scheduled to depart the country before May 10.

The removal of Indian military troops established in Maldives are being proceeded in conformity of the procedures detailed in the agreement signed between the two countries.

As reported by Mihaaru News, further deliberations regarding this matter is also predicted to take place during Minister Zameer's visit to India.
