Heena has stated that the government does not condone political restraints over anyone and asserted that corruption cases will be investigated regardless of the identity of the accused.
Chief Spokesperson at the President's Office, Heena Waleed, has stated that holding political restraint over any individual is not the policy of this government.
Responding to a question posed by a journalist during a press conference held yesterday, inquiring whether corruption cases of the former government will be investigated, Heena stated that politically restraining anyone is outside the views of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
Heena asserted that corruption cases must be investigated by relevant authorities and that in cases of such conduct, concerned institutions will investigate the matter regardless of the identity of the accused.
"If corruption cases have occurred or if such cases exist, relevant institutions will investigate the matter; that is no matter who orchestrated the corruption. However, it is not the government's vision, not the government's policy, to politically restrain any individual in any manner," said Heena.
One of the cases that pressured this administration the most was the matter of former President Abdulla Yameen's freedom. However, the government had maintained from the very beginning that the case of the former president's freedom will proceed through the judicial system and that the State will not interfere with it.
The body that finally issued a verdict on the matter and freed the former President was the High Court. However, this came with an order for a retrial.
