President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Thursady instructed Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof and State Minister of Planning and Infrastructure Akram Kamaluddin to stay home for the time being, due to their alleged involvement in the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) corruption case.

According to the report publicized by Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) on the embezzlement of MVR 1.3 billion, money transactions had been made into both Minister Mahloof and Akram's accounts.

In a tweet, Mahloof confirmed that President Solih has asked him to stay home until investigations conclude. Mahloof also said that he respects the decision made by the President in his tweet.

The investigation report by ACC reveals that a transaction of USD 33,000 from SOF Pvt Ltd was made into Mahloof's account. Meanwhile, USD 30,000 was deposited into the account of Akram.

Mahloof addressed the allegations by stating that the transactions between SOF and his account were legitimate and if any issue arises, he would resign from his post as Minister.

According to him, his brother had bought dollars from SOF for a family-owned shop. He added that the money to buy the dollars from the company was given in cash.

The former MP had shared the documents from SOF with ACC to provided proof for his case.

President Solih had announced this week that this government will maintain a zero tolerance policy for corruption-related issues.
