President Yameen declares day of elections a public holiday

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has declared September 23 a public holiday, as the date falls on the voting day of the Presidential Elections 2018.

The Elections Commission (EC), on Friday, officially announced the presidential candidacy of President Yameen of ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), and Ibrahim Mohamed Solih (Ibu) from the opposition coalition, in the presidential elections.

Both presidential candidates have also appointed their respective running mates for the upcoming presidential elections. Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed will be running alongside President Yameen, and Kaashidhoo MP Mohamed Faisal Naseem of Jumhooree Party (JP)as running mate to Ibu.
