One in every four tourists to Maldives is from India

Statistics released by Tourism Ministry show that one in every four tourist to Maldives is from India.

India is also the country with the most amount of tourist arrivals to Maldives overall. Prior to the pandemic, this status was held by China.

According to the tourism ministry, within the last months, 870,862 tourists had arrived in Maldives, out of which 204,530 tourists were from India.

This is 18 percent increase compared to 2019.

The country with the second highest arrivals to Maldives is Russia. In 2019, 83,369 Russian tourists visited Maldives while 174,095 tourists had arrived in Maldives from Russia by the time September ended. Therefore every one in five tourists to Maldives in 2021 is from Russia.

Russia is followed with Germany, and then United States in terms tourist arrivals.

Tourism Ministry estimates 1.3 million tourists will visit Maldives by the time 2021 ends.
