On Saturday, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) announced that 402 more people tested positive for COVID-19 in Maldives, while 159 recovered from the disease.
Although the number of cases started to drop earlier in April, currently, the figures have been rapidly increasing.
According to the agency, of the new cases, 174 were from the greater Male’ region, 179 cases from residential islands, six cases from operational resorts 43 from industrial islands.
Currently, the island nation records a total of 30,237 virus cases of which 5,221 are active, in addition to 24,934 recoveries and 74 deaths.
On March 12, 2020, WHO classified the spread of COVID-19 as a global pandemic. To date, the new strain of novel coronavirus has infected over 152.8 million people and claimed over 3.2 million lives around the world. However, out of those infected, more than 130 million people have recovered.
