Govt discusses increasing opportunities for persons with disabilities

Vice President Faisal Naseem met Cabinet ministers and senior officials from state-owned enterprises on Tuesday to discuss ways to provide more opportunities for persons with disabilities.

According to the President's Office, they focussed on providing more job opportunities, especially in state-owned companies and government institutions, in order to improve the quality of life for persons with disabilities.

The VP and officials also spoke about avenues to encourage persons with disabilities to utilise individual and creative talents in the education sector.

The Cabinet ministers at the meeting included Minister of Education Dr Aishath Ali, Minister of Gender, Family and Social Services Shidhatha Shareef, and Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Ahmed Zahir.

Officials from state-owned enterprises represented Civil Service Commission, Dhiraagu, Fenaka Corporation, Island Aviation Services (IAS), Local Government Authority (LGA), Maldives Airports Company Ltd (MACL), Maldives Ports Ltd (MPL), Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), Male' Water & Sewerage Company (MWSC), Public Service Media (PSM), State Electric Company (STELCO), State Trading Organisation (STO), and Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO).
