MDP has decided to lift the measures taken against its members regarding various issues.

MDP's Deputy Chairperson Ibrahim Waheed (Iburey) said that during the MDP National Council meeting held last Wednesday night, they decided to lift the measures taken against various members regarding disciplinary issues.

He said one of the reasons for this proposal was to involve as many people as possible in the party's work as an opposition party.

With this decision by the MDP, the measures taken against former party chairperson Moosa Manik (Reeko Moosa) and former parliamentary group leader Ali Azim will also be lifted.

Moosa was expelled from MDP in 2014 for violating the party's whip line in a parliament vote. However, he rejoined MDP in 2023.

However, when Moosa submitted his candidacy for the position of Male' City President, the party announced that he would not be given the opportunity. This was because under the measures taken against Moosa in 2014, even though he rejoined MDP, he was banned from competing for party positions for a period of five years.

While Azim was also expelled from MDP for violating the party whip, after the National Council made this decision, he has also decided to rejoin MDP. Additionally, many officials who had previously left MDP and formed the Democrats Party have decided to rejoin MDP.
