Male' Mayor Adam Azim has been elected as Male' Area President in opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s National Council by-elections.
Male' Mayor Adam Azim has been elected as Male' Area President in opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s National Council by-elections.
Azim competed against former MP for West Maafannu constituency Mohamed Falah, and as of last night, received over 600 votes to Falah's 200.
Azim previously headed MTCC through a Jumhoori Party slot, but went against the party's stand and endorsed MDP during the last presidential election.
He then signed up as a member of MDP and the proceeded to win the Male' mayoral elections.
MDP National Council's Male' Area Presidency became vacant following the resignation of former Mayor Shifa Mohamed, who previously filled that position.
Including Male' area, by-elections were held by MDP for 20 constituencies yesterday.
